Year 5

In Y5 in the Autumn term we study Britain since 1948 as our main topic. We look at the changing fashion styles from across the decades in Art. We develop our research skills by finding out about the the key events that have happened, in chronological order, since 1948. The children will select and combine information from more than one source, including the Internet, to find out how people's lives have changed.

We In the Spring term we study a village in India. We compare village life in India to that of life here in Market Harborough in addition to researching the geographic differences between India and the United Kingdom. We look at Stories from other Cultures in Literacy; we design our own Indian fabrics linking this with ICT. We cook and taste Indian recipes and learn Indian dances.

In the Summer term we study Ancient Greece as our main topic. With the London 2012 Olympics taking place towards the end of the academic year, we will be looking at the Ancient Olympic games and possibly even holding our own Ancient Olympic games at school. As well as looking at Greek temples, we write and act Greek plays and myths using our own imaginary mythical creatures.
