Market Harborough C of E Primary School

 Childrens Zone: School Council

The School Council is made up of twelve children, 1 child from each class from year1 through to year 6.  The Councillors are elected by their peers and represent their classes' views, concerns and ideas. The two year 6 Councillors also have the special job of representing the Foundation Stage children. The School Council meets every 2/3 weeks, although sometimes we meet more often if we have issues/events to sort out.

We have a strong link with the Leicester Animal Rescue Centre, raising money and donating hampers of food for the animals at Christmas time. We hope to visit the Centre in the Summer Term.

We also coordinate the raising of money for our School's sponsored child in Ethiopia.  We have recently received a letter from her and have sent letters and pictures back to her, sharing some of the work we do in school.

We have supported our School's 'Healthy Schools Award' by organising a KS2 fruit competition every week to encourage children to eat healthy snacks at break time.

We also coordinate the raising of money for our School's sponsored child Tsiyon in Ethiopia.  We have recently received a letter from her and have sent letters and pictures back to her, sharing some of the work we do in school. The school council have sent Christmas cards, small gifts and photos to her so that she knows we are thinking of her at Christmas time.  Thank you to everyone who has brought in money to support Tsiyon.

On Monday 11th Decmber 2006, Mick and Judy from the Leicester Animal Rescue Centre came to school to meet the School Council and pick up the hampers of food that we have been collecting in school over the past few weeks.  They brought a young puppy with them called Millie -she was very cute!! Thank you to everyone who has brought in food for the cats and dogs; the Rescue Centre is very grateful.

After Easter we will be welcoming our youngest Councillors, from year 1, for the first time to our Team. We are sure they will have lots of good ideas to share.

On Tuesday 11th March, the School Council visited the Ridgeway Primary School. We were met by Mrs McConnell and Ridgeways School Council and we were made to feel very welcome. Both School Councils talked about what they do in school and we swapped ideas about meetings and activities which was really useful. The Ridgeway School Council will be coming here in the summer term for a return visit.

18th March 2008 A really, really big thank you from all of us in the School Council for your support with our recent Easter competition.

As a school we have raised £97.73 to support our sponsored child,Tsiyon, which is amazing!!

Thank you again and Happy Easter.
